TATUM

I am fascinated by the origin of words
With their beginnings at times absurd
But many times they make a lot of sense
And from where they do commence
Is a pioneer, a leader, a person who came to fame
And the word simply honors them with their name.

For example, a newton is a unit of weight whose mass is that of an apple
In honor of Sir Isaac Newton and the theory of gravity that he did grapple
And to pay homage to the honorable Sir Alexander Graham Bell
You may have heard of a unit of sound simply called a decibel
And in music there is the Tatum describing the shortest duration of a note
Which shows respect for Art Tatum and the rapid fire fingerings he wrote

(Noun — the smallest time interval between successive notes in a rhythmic phrase.)
