It has been said that beauty lies in the beholder’s eye
That elicits a deep and heartfelt resonant sigh
And I’d like to think that an aesthetic sense is everyone’s duty
But I also realize that there is a certain democracy of beauty
For what elicits this aesthetic response has a broad and common decree
But not all that lay their eyes on this elected and elevated art agree
For what to one can appear a desolate and horrid abomination
May to another be a meaning filled and exquisite compilation
Of texture and form that speaks directly to that person’s heart
Which in turn lets in grace and love as if to tear her soul apart.
