JOHN MUIR – A TRIBUTE

Tree and brook and fish and stone
Wind and rain and sleet and snow
Nature entwines within our souls
And displays majestic art for show
That are more than images to stow
Within our memories and hearts.

Shrub and stream and trout and rock
Stars and moon and birds that flock
Nature’s peace will ease the shock
Upon our psyche too often fraught
With false assumptions of human thought
Within the canyons of our mind.

Bush and rill and pike and pebble
Hurricane and hail that makes me tremble
Nature’s peace and love dost assemble
In my heart and in my eye a mere thimble
Of the vastness of space and time, a twinkle
In God’s eye that contains all of me and you.

Herb and river and bass and boulder
Blizzard and chill and ice much colder
Than Mother Nature’s touch upon my shoulder
Comforting me and making me bolder
To weather society’s ills and so I told her
‘I am one with you for you are one within me.’
